Autumn's arrival in years past brought crisp temperatures. Now October comes with 100-degree readings in Phoenix, Las Vegas and Palm Springs. Wildfires are a common hazard of California life. Even cold cities like Chicago and Minneapolis suffer from extended heat waves.
Fall's exciting cool days seem fewer and fewer.
