The Atlanta Braves' SunTrust Park received a significant endorsement Thursday: Legendary AJC sportswriter Tim Tucker pronounced the new stadium nearly ready for play.
Tucker covered the team in 1982 when Dale Murphy, Bob Horner and Phil Niekro sparked the Braves' unexpected run to the National League playoffs. Each day, Tucker's stories conveyed the drama of the home team's ups and downs. Those Braves played in old Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. Now, Tucker's present to record the dawn of the Braves' new era in Cobb County.
The Braves need to do a bit of work before opening day March 31, Tucker reports in his AJC article on the team's stadium "sneak peek" for the media. But the sod is in. All that's needed for a ballgame are the bases and the padding on the outfield walls.
Guess it's time for intown baseball fans to accept that the Braves now will be playing in Cobb County. Tim Tucker's report makes it real.
