A major Anarctic ice shelf is cracking, and a big chunk will soon break free, according to The New York Times.
A crack in the Larsen C shelf, the Antarctic's fourth largest, has grown by 17 miles in the last three months because of warming ocean water, the newspaper reported, offering in-depth scientific information and a detailed map.
Scientists fear that once the broken off piece turns into a free-standing ice berg, the continental glaciers standing behind the ice shelf will melt faster, causing oceans to rise.
As climate change deniers rule the Congress and presidency, the Antarctic is disappearing. Seas will cover major cities. Who will weep for the penguins?
