In one of my top New York City experiences, I was able to obtain the final ticket in the theater for a matinee performance of the Broadway production of "Fences," starring Washington and Viola Davis and directed by Atlanta's Kenny Leon.
The performance of August Wilson's beautifully written play was the all-time best I've seen in the theater. Here is the link to Southern Bookman's interview with Leon on the production.
Washington directed the movie version, which apparently preserves most of the Broadway cast. I'm hoping the film displays the same magic as the Broadway show, which found the full measure of Wilson's language.
